Your direction is more important than your speed.
Change is hard. And change takes time. But, how many times have you rushed into making a change, whatever that is, only to revert back to old habits? Many people give up on making changes because the changes don't happen fast enough. And in our current culture quick fixes are presented to us on a daily basis. I'm sure many of you have experienced this in making changes to your health and wellness. How can you make change long lasting?
1.It's about savoring the process. Change over time allows us to trust in the process. Being mindful---in the moment---helps us pay more attention to what we're doing. We focus and concentrate more. This increased awareness is necessary in the beginning, when you’re still forming your groove. Later, it’ll become automatic. But first you have to start feeling it.
2. Build slowly. When we start a new change, often we are full of enthusiasm. But then we start out at Level 10 changes, doing it at max and we run out of motivation or energy or get distracted by something else. When you build incrementally, you build up enthusiasm and keep it going for much longer — through that dreaded 2-3 week barrier when people often quit. Keep it going and that's when you see it.
3.Doing something mindfully and with purpose and intention means you can learn to do it correctly, without being erratic or chaotic, and later as it becomes second nature you’ll do it the right way. And then others notice!
Making changes to your health and wellness does not happen overnight. The body and mind adapt to a new equilibrium over time. And the changes you make translate into lifestyle! That's a central philosophy of The FASTer Way. It's not a quick fix---it's a lifestyle.
