Detoxing Naturally

I missed National Hot Tea Day (January 12). It made me think about Detox Tea so I am going to share my thoughts anyway.

People have been detoxing in one way or another for centuries. They've used leeches and bloodletting, sweating it out, elimination methods (enemas/diuretics/laxatives), special cleanse diets, supplements, fasting, and detox tea to name several. When I saw that Jan. 12 was National Hot Tea Day I began wondering if Detox Teas are a safe way to detox. I've tried using detox teas in the past and what I remember is that I definitely had to run to the bathroom more often! I can't really say that I felt "better" or "more well."

Many teas to have health promoting benefits; but most are probably largely diuretic. Or they have a laxative effect. My worry about using them has been about the amount of caffeine in them which can interrupt your sleep and also make you feel like your head is spinning off of your body! Not to mention the side effects they could have on your gastrointestinal system. This article from healthline has a lot of great information about some of the potential negative side effects of detox teas. https://www.healthline.com/health/detox-tea-side-effects

Teas are delicious (I highly recommend loose tea---if you haven't tried you are missing out. as my friend Erica said, it will change your perspective on tea). So to balance things out, I am also including this article https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/10-herbal-teas

which outlines healthy teas you should try

In the FASTer Way program, a natural path to detox is promoted. Our organs are actually programmed to remove toxins from our bodies, so the goal is to keep them healthy so they can function optimally. We do that through whole person wellness.

I will be starting a new FASTer Way 6-Week Initial Round in February! You can sign up for my waitlist below.
